Alberto Orte
Alberto Orte
Alberto Orte has been in the vineyards since childhood. Born in Madrid to a family of wine enthusiasts, he quickly got the bug. Today, Alberto runs more than 16 hectares of vineyards in places like Jerez, Valdeorras and Rioja, producing wines that have launched him as one of the most talented emerging Spanish winemakers of the next generation.
After obtaining a Master's degree in both law and viticulture, Alberto fills his days by vinifying a whole host of top-notch Spanish wines. He produces wines from unique terroirs, labelled Alberto Orte, on the one hand, and accessible entry-level wines, labelled Vinos Atlántico, on the other.
One of Alberto's main contributions is reviving almost extinct local varieties, showing their enormous potential. In Jerez alone, he has identified more than 200 old clones and 22 forgotten varieties. Alberto also has a bean for old vines, as they tend to produce low yields of concentrated fruit, resulting in quality, complex wines.
