Roland Piollot has been working organically since the 1980s. Since 2007 he has adopted a number of biodynamic treatments and although he has not applied for the Démeter label, Rolland Piollot is certainly a better biodynamist than many others who have the label! It is clear that his Champagne is of great purity and does not contain any synthetic chemicals or pesticides. In my opinion, its basic cuvée has one of the best quality / price ratios in all of Champagne.
Think about it, for less than 30 euros, here is a totally organic champagne with incomparable freshness and a truly perfect acid balance. It is THE aperitif champagne par excellence. Fresh, floral, fruity and mineral with a lemony side well asserted in all the cuvées, it is distinguished by its extraordinary "drinkability".
The very high quality of PIOLLOT Champagne can certainly be explained in large part by the mass selection (and not clonal, which means that many plants are genetically different) implemented by its father for more than 50 years. This courageous decision, imbued with peasant common sense, is now proving to be decisive in the face of the unfortunate and catastrophic standardization of so many great vineyards. Undoubtedly, the quality of the vineyard here is very much superior to that of many great Champagne houses. The Piollots have always favored the vinosity of Pinot noir.
Consequently, it is this grape that dominates in their plantations (60%) but they have also retained rare and forgotten grape varieties that could bring greater complexity and originality to their product (Arbanne and Pinot blanc grape). The average age of the vineyard is over 30 years, which also contributes to the sappy and complex base wines. They draw a remarkable minerality from deep in the soil. This product is therefore one of our finest discoveries. A GRAND CHAMPAGNE from a winegrower worthy of the name.
