Champagne Robert Barbichon
Thomas & Maxime Barbichon
The vineyard is located in the heart of the Côte des Bar, where they work 9 hectares mainly on Gyé sur Seine and Celles sur Ource. Thomas and Maxime are now the fourth generation of winegrowers to work the vines on clay-limestone soils (marl with Exogyres). The average age of the vines is about 38 years, 70% of them facing south (47% S-E + 23% S-W) and 30% facing north (18% N-W + 12% N). The majority of the vines are Pinot Noir (75%), but there are also white varieties such as Chardonnay (11%) and Pinot Blanc (5%), and finally the third Champagne variety, Pinot Meunier (9%).
Since 2010, the estate has been certified in organic farming but also in Biodynamic farming since the 2012 harvest. This method consists of "redynamising" the life of the soil by abandoning synthetic chemical products and using biodynamic preparations. Working the soil and adding local compost made from cow and horse manure, hemp dust and basalt help to maintain this balance.
