Château Guiot
François, Sylvia, Alexis & Numa Cornut
Château Guiot is located in the south of the Costières de Nîmes appellation, on the first slopes overlooking the ponds of Petite Camargue. The 80 hectare vineyard benefits from a very deep soil, made up of red clay with rolled pebbles over a depth of about fifty metres, which came from the Durance river 200 thousand years ago. This proximity to water through the Camargue and the Mediterranean, as well as the exceptional richness and depth of the soil, give the red wines expression, maturity, suppleness and freshness. L'Enclos de la Chance is located near Uzès, on the family land of Blauzac and Bourdic. They have chosen to plant the white grape varieties here in order to benefit from a cooler terroir and to produce white wines of the type we like, which are luminous, elegant and have a nice tension that is good for ageing.
François and Sylvia Cornut purchased the Château Guiot in 1976, bringing with them expertise and passion. The Cornut family decided to change the planting ratio at the domaine by planting the noble varietals frequently used in the production of fine wines.
In 2007, the Cornut Family twins, Alexis and Numa, joined the family adventure and purchased “L’Enclos de la Chance” in order to produce a range of white wines. This was the first time that white wines were produced by the Château.
In 2011, the family developed the domaine’s wine production area by purchasing some neigh-boring parcels of exceptional quality. This extension was the catalyst for the following year’s new construction for bottled wines. The barrel cellar was also extended in order to vinify wines aged in oak barrels.
