Finca Torremilanos
Ricardo Peñalba
Ricardo Peñalba is, with his brother, a lover of his land of Torremilanos. La Finca is a little gem located in Aranda de Duero, about 600 meters above sea level. The vineyard was acquired by the Peñalba Lopez family in 1975 and its current area exceeds 200 hectares, totally cultivated in biodynamics. Such an area allows economies of scale and makes it possible to sell a very good Ribera at a price that could not be more democratic. From a terroir point of view, the vineyard exposed to the North East is located on the hillside of a mountain above the "Duero" river. It is an alluvial clay-limestone soil on the sediments left by the Duero with a presence of flint and quartz chips. Many plots have vines that are more than a hundred years old! The family has set up its own cooperage which gives it the possibility of adapting the quality of the wood and the aging according to the quality of the grapes harvested. Few producers can boast of mastering the production chain from start to finish and in a completely ecological way from start to finish. This probably also explains the total perfection of the marriage of barrel and wine in the different cuvées produced at the estate. It should also be noted that the wines are never sulphited during fermentation. Ricardo Peñalba only uses sulfur wicks (natural) for the barrels. The wines are therefore bottled with an extremely low level of sulphites.
