Petrushoeve
Gerry Calders
The history of this Hageland farmstead goes back at least to 1519, when a certain Jan Van Huffele farmed here. Since 2010, Gerry Calders, an ambitious entrepreneur-winegrower, has been using all his agricultural assets to professionally take viticulture in the hills of the Hageland to an international level.
When making his wines, Gerry Calders wants to intervene only where necessary. For this reason, he has therefore firstly planted hybrid and resistant grape varieties, including Johaniter, Regent and Pinotin. Because of their natural resistance to all kinds of diseases, intervention in the vineyard is hardly necessary. This then extends to other aspects of viticulture and vinification, where sustainable and organic practices are the norm. Chemicals, for instance, are out of the question. Quality, however, remains paramount: interventions and adjustments are made responsibly should this be compromised. The history of this Hageland farmstead goes back at least to 1519, when a certain Jan Van Huffele farmed here.
